Defendor is a Canadian superhero comedy/drama about a mentally ill man who acquires the persona of a real-life superhero. When a Psychiatrist initially interviews the protagonist, Arthur Poppington during a psychiatric evaluation, a very interesting character is revealed. Initially confused, Poppington opens up, recalling an incident of assault during his childhood days. The story starts off with him assaulting a man named Dooney, claiming to be an undercover police officer, who is a corrupt, drug addicted, detective. Poppington has reason to believe this detective is secretly employed by his arch nemesis Captain Industry. Poppington is later arrested for the assault, and sparks a unique friendship with the captain of the police force because both of their grandfathers had served in the military. Poppington lives a very solitary life in a government construction department building where he works during the day. After another confrontation with the corrupt detective Dooney, Poppington meets Angel, a drug addicted prostitute. He later discovers Angel has inside knowledge as to the whereabouts of his archenemy, Captain Industry, and allows her to move in with him. She then begins helping him in the apprehension of his Captain Industry. Poppington's boss, Paul, later becomes concerned that he is living at the construction department with a prostitute, and tries to help him by offering Poppington to come and live with him and his family. Poppington refuses the offer and continues on his quest along with Angles to find and eventually defeat Captain Industry. This is a film full of adventure and surprising plot twists corner after corner. Secrets are revealed, relationships are tested, and plans are discovered, making Defendor a quirky and lighthearted journey in the life of a real, but not necessarily mentally sound, superhero.
