Kingpin is a 1996 comedy film about a down-on-his-luck former bowler named Roy Munson, played by Woody Harrelson. Roy had a promising career ahead of him as a bowler until he was swindled by his mentor and lost his hand in an accident. He spends the next 17 years scraping by, hustling people in games of bowling. One day, Roy meets Ishmael, played by Randy Quaid, a naive Amish man who is a natural bowler. Roy sees Ishmael as his ticket to getting back into the world of professional bowling and convinces him to go on a road trip to enter a bowling tournament. Along the way, they meet and reluctantly team up with a former champion bowler named Ernie McCracken, played by Bill Murray.

Their journey is filled with mishaps and misadventures as they encounter all kinds of characters, including a group of tough bikers, a cheating and conniving landlady, and a rival bowler who is bent on stopping them from winning the tournament.

As they make their way to the tournament, Roy and Ishmael form a bond and Roy learns about responsibility and selflessness while trying to help Ishmael stand up to his father and find his own identity. Meanwhile, Ernie tries to sabotage their efforts and get back at Roy for ruining his career years earlier.

The movie is a hilarious and heartwarming underdog story about second chances and unlikely friendships. Kingpin is full of memorable one-liners, physical comedy, and unexpected twists, and features standout performances from all three lead actors. Woody Harrelson shines as the flawed yet lovable Roy, while Randy Quaid is endearing and pitch-perfect as the innocent Ishmael. Bill Murray steals the show as the sleazy and charismatic Ernie McCracken, elevating every scene he's in with his snarky wit and impeccable comic timing.

The film also boasts impressive visuals, particularly in the bowling scenes, which are shot with a dynamic and energetic style that captures the thrill and excitement of the sport. The soundtrack is also a standout, featuring classic rock and country songs that fit perfectly with the film's tone and pacing.

Overall, Kingpin is a classic comedy that deserves more recognition than it gets. Its clever humor, charming characters, and memorable scenes make it one of the most entertaining movies of the 90s, and a must-watch for anyone who loves a good underdog story or a great comedy.

Kingpin is a 1996 comedy with a runtime of 1 hour and 53 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.9 and a MetaScore of 43.
