Kart Racer is a Canadian family comedy drama that was written by Nicholas DiBella and directed by Stuart Gillard. Produced by Leif Bristow, the MGM film features Randy Quaid, Jennifer Wigmore, Will Rothaar, Amanda De Martinis, Joe Dinicol, David Gallagher, Jordan Conti, Harland Williams and Steve Adams. The story follows Watts Davies (played by Will Rothhaar) - called Lightbulb. Since he lost his mother to cancer, his father, Victor - a mechanic (played by Randy Quaid) has not spoken to him. Because Watts is also into go-karting, he could really use his dad's help. For example, should he be willing, his dad could be influential to help him get into a regional race that is coming up. The first problem is that Watts has no car. He tries to raise the money to get one, but his efforts are stopped by local bullies led by a guy called Baggims who will be his strongest opponent. Vic finally decides to help his son - after a pretty deputy sheriff (played by Jennifer Wigmore) tells Vic that his son needs his help - each time she has to correct one of his many harmless, though annoying pranks. Vic helps his son build his own go-kart and passes along all that he knows about the sport. Zee (played by Harland Williams) is his pal, but as a low end arcade owner, he only serves to slow Watts down, taking him off his path. Watts also manages to have a first time romance with an alternative girl named Dahlia Stone (played by Amanda De Martinis). She is into graffiti, spending her time organizing her next building conquest. Though they are an unlikely pair, they both share a sense of adventure which is what bonds them. By the end, Watts is living his dream with a good romance and a mended relationship with his father that gets stronger and stronger.
