The Adventurers is an American movie based on a novel of the same name by Harold Robbins; the 171 minute film tells an epic tale of revenge and revolution in the South American country of Corteguay. Produced by Adventurers Films, Paramount Pictures and Avco Embassy Pictures the film recevied negative reviews upon release and is often featured on lists of the worst films of all time; its inclusion on these lists has led to a cult following for the movie. The plot focuses on the character of Dax, played by Berkam Fehmiu as his life story is told from the age of around ten to his death during a South American revolution. As a small boy Dax witnesses the murder of his mother at the hands of a group of government soldiers from the dictatorship of Corteguay; Dax's father Jaime is a revolutionary living with a group led by Rojo. The revolutionaries track down the soldiers and give Dax the privilige of executing them. These early experiences haunt Dax and lead to his unhappy and violent adult life; Dax spends his teen and early adult years in Rome, Italy where Jaime is the Corteguay ambassador. After discovering Rojo has become a dictator in Cortaguey Jaime returns to the country and is murdered after making contact with a revolutionary known as El Condor. Dax returns for the funeral and is tricked into talking El Condor into giving himself up to the authorities; El Condor is then killed by the dictatorship and Dax returns to Rome to marry a millionairess. Following his divorce Dax returns to South America and helps another revolutionary overthrow the Cartaguey government as his true love Amparo and their baby daughter are taken from the country to the safety of Rome. Whilst finally delivering democracy to Cortaguey Dax is jurdered in a revenge killing by the son of El Condor who blames him for the murder of the revolutionary leader.
