Detective Edward Mercer visits Venice in order to track down a man who he is told is a war hero. A French insurance company wants to pay the hero back for his brave actions. What Mercer finds when he meets with his contact is a dead man. He soon learns that he cannot trust anyone because the police are searching for him as well as foreign patriots. Mercer needs to figure out who is after him and why before they catch up with him.
