The Cowboy Way is the 1994 comedy/action adventure film directed by Gregg Champion. This film stars Woody Harrelson and Kiefer Sutherland as modern day cowboys, rodeo champions and life long friends from the wild ranges of New Mexico. Harrelson and Sutherland portray rodeo champions Pepper Lewis and Sonny Gilstrap. These two are complete opposites with Sonny being the more serious minded and Pepper being the cocky and full loving sort. Harrelson and Sutherland have an on screen chemistry that is fabulous and the humor and action are well place and timed. Sonny and Pepper find themselves traveling to New York City to discover what has happened to their friend Nacho Salazar. Nacho who had traveled to New York City to pay for his daughter's trip from Cuba to the United States has gone missing, the two friends fearing foul play go looking for answers. The two quickly discover that their lifelong friend has been murdered and no one is doing anything about it. So Pepper and Sonny take it upon themselves to set out and find Nacho's killer and also to discover what has happened to his daughter, Teresa portrayed by Cara Buono. Pepper and Sonny learn that their friend's daughter may still be alive and that she is mixed up in a human trafficking ring ran by John Stark, who is played by Dylan McDermott. During their adventure they find an ally in a mounted Central Park officer played by Ernie Hudson, who also happens to be a fan of the rodeo circuit. With the help of their new found friend these two unlikely heroes set out to rescue the girl and bring their friend's killer to justice. The friends troubled relationship due to past events and circumstances rears its head and threatens to keep the friends from completing what they have started. In the end, the two friends come to grips with their past issues and their friendship is restored in time to save the girl and the day.
