Harry Barber is ready to live back in the free world after his recent release from jail. He had been serving a sentence after being framed in a corruption scandal. With the past behind him, this ex-con and ex-reporter is ready for freedom. He had been released from jail after an ex-cop's testimony had cleared him of the previous charges.

Harry found himself back in Palmetto and reunited with his girlfriend, Nina. Nina had been waiting for Harry to be released from jail. He would need a job now; however no employer was beating down his doors to hire him. Without a job, Harry is left to spend his days sitting in the local bar.

He then meets up with Rhea Malroux, who happens to be very married and very attractive. Rhea has offered Harry a job. Harry is desperate by this time and cannot resist the temptation of $500,000 and its lure in this job opportunity. As luck would have it, Harry somehow gets involved in a fake kidnapping. Harry found out once again that when you play with fire, someone usually gets burned. This time someone ended up dead too.
