This is a comedy movie about a family taking an historical trip together. Lewis Birch is a tired and washed up history professor. He is going to an important conference that he hopes will help forward his career. He is taking his sons, Zoe and Jack, with him. He hopes they can spend some quality time together. He also takes his father along for the ride.

The trip goes wrong when Birch’s father decides he will go off on his own. He is going to relive the famous trek made by Lewis and Clark. Now Birch and his sons must chase him down.
