"The Gundown" welcomes with an opening scene depicting the harsh, unforgiving, and lawless wild west. Armed bandits have raided a small town, taken the women captive, and killed the sheriff. While they indulge themselves our hero Cole Brandt moves like lightning and dispatches all but one of the bandits with ease. The one he left alive he interrogates before delivering frontier justice. Following the information of the man, Cole heads towards the town of Dead River and trouble. In Dead River, Thomas, the proprietor of the Majestic Saloon is murdered by some hooligans in a seemingly random act of violence. Only the whole incident was orchestrated by Travis McCain, the owner of the only brothel in town, The Raven. As if that wasn't bad enough Travis also has the only sheriff in town running scared. That is until Cole wandering into town to collect a bounty on some of the bandits he killed in his travels. The sheriff explains the situation to Cole and asks him to be his Deputy. Cole makes it painfully clear to the sheriff that he would like to do anything but get involved in a small town dispute. While Cole contends with his past, and the plea of the local sheriff to become his deputy. He falls for a young woman working at The Raven named Cassey May. At first, Cole is reluctant to assist the few good people left in the town. However, his past catches up with him and he finds himself at a cross roads. Travis attempts to scare off Cole by trying to have him killed while he camps on the outskirts of town. It only serves to steel his resolve. The only question now is Cole forge on and continue the fruitless hunt for the murderers of his family, or does he make peace with his past and save the people that need him?
