The Haunted House Project is a 2010 South Korean horror movie directed by Cheol-ha Lee. The movie follows the story of a group of high school students who decide to make a documentary on paranormal activities. The film is presented in found footage style and is shot through the lens of the students' camcorder. The story begins with two high school friends, Jin-Sung (Tae-Ho Hyun) and Hee-Young (Hwa-Jung Lee), who are members of the school's film club. Jin-Sung is highly interested in the paranormal and is known for his obsession with capturing evidence of supernatural activity on film. He convinces Hee-Young to help him in making a documentary on a house that has been abandoned for many years due to rumored ghost sightings.

Jin-Sung decides to invite three more friends to join him in the project. They are Young-Suk (In-Kul Jun), who is also interested in the paranormal, Mi-Kyoung, who is a popular girl in school, and Sung-Hoon, the class president. The group decides to spend a night in the abandoned house to capture any paranormal activity on film.

The movie follows the students as they set up their equipment in the abandoned house, and things start to get spooky as the night progresses. The students start to experience strange occurrences, including eerie noises, misplaced objects, and mysterious sightings. As they continue to investigate the house, they uncover a dark secret surrounding the previous occupants, and the house's history.

The Haunted House Project draws from the found footage genre that became popular with films like The Blair Witch Project and Paranormal Activity. While it does not break ground in originality or storytelling, the movie offers plenty of chills and thrills, making it a solid entry in the horror genre.

One of the movie's strengths is its effective use of sound design to create a tense atmosphere. The creaking doors, footsteps, and other sounds that are typical in haunted house movies are present in this movie, but they feel genuine and not overly produced, making the audience feel like they are in the same room as the characters. The movie also uses silence effectively, creating moments of silence, adding to the tension, and making the audience uncomfortable with what may happen next.

The found footage aspect of the movie adds an extra layer of realism to the story, capturing the characters' emotions as they react to the creepy occurrences. The camera shots are shaky, and the lighting is often dim, adding to the sense of danger and unease throughout the film.

The acting is solid throughout the movie, with the cast delivering believable and genuine performances. Tae-Ho Hyun is particularly noteworthy as the obsessed Jin-Sung, who takes his obsession with the paranormal to a whole new level.

Overall, The Haunted House Project is a solid horror movie, offering plenty of jump scares and tense moments for fans of the genre. While it may not break new ground in the found footage or haunted house sub-genres, it delivers on its promises and is an enjoyable watch for horror fans.
