Watch The Heart of the Matter

This drama is based on a novel by Graham Greene. During World War II, Major Scobie oversees security in a West African colony. He feels trapped in a loveless marriage to Louise, grieving the death of their only daughter. Louise makes no secret that she hates her life and tells Scobie she's going to live in South Africa. In her absence, he becomes involved with a young widow named Helen who is a shipwreck victim. He writes her a letter which is then used to blackmail him about his affair. When Louise discovers his affair, Scobie contemplates suicide.
