Mala is a raccoon who lives in the South of the US and has a pack of children who are all lost apart from one during a storm. Mala nurses her last remaining child, Weecha and eventually is joined by a young hound named Nubbin. As Nubbin has lost his family he is helped by Mala and becomes friends with Weecha before Nubbin is reunited with his pack and must make some difficult choices about who is his real family.
