The Lucky Texan tells the story of a young Texan and blacksmith named Jerry Mason who becomes partners with an older rancher named Jake Benson. Benson was a close friend of Jerry's deceased father. The two of them discover a gold mine on Jerry's property and decide to sell without making a claim. Jerry and Jake make the mistake of trusting two assayers named Harris and Cole that trick Jerry into selling the deed to the ranch. Jake's life is turned upside down when he is accused of robbing the bank and put in jailed. Jerry discovers that it is Sheriff Miller's son, Al, who is the real bank robber and chases Al down on horseback and brings him back to town. After Jake is freed from jail his granddaughter, Betty, arrives in town. She has just graduated from college. Betty flirts with Jerry and soon falls in love with him. Betty also gets involved with helping Jerry and Jake get back the ranch. Mason and Jake go to great lengths to protect themselves against Harris and Cole who want to do them in. Harris and Cole mistakenly think they have killed Jake and try to claim his land, but Jake is very much alive and goes to a court hearing regarding his supposed death dressed as a woman. While in disguise, Jake testifies that Harris and Cole tried to kill him, but his true identify is uncovered when his dress comes off after it gets caught on his granddaughter's chair. Harris and Cole flee the courtroom, but Jerry and Jake capture the two men. In the end, Jake regains the deed to his property and Jerry and Betty marry.
