The film featured several critically acclaimed original songs. “Movin’ Right Along” and “I Hope that Something Better Comes Along” were two of the most popular. The Kermit the Frog song “Rainbow Connection” that started off the film was nominated for an Academy Award and won the “Golden Globe” award for best original song. The movie starts in a Florida swamp where Kermit the Frog is singing away and playing his banjo. He is greeted by a lost talent agent who encourages Kermit to head to Hollywood to start in television and movies. Kermit sets off on his quest to make people happy with his singing. He starts the trek across the country alone but soon meets several friends who choose to join him on his quest.
He first meets Fozzie Bear in a nightclub where he is failing as a stand-up comedian. Fozzie joins Kermit on his journey. As Kermit and Fozzie head across the country they eventually hook up with other Muppets Gonzo, Dr.Teeth, Ms.Piggy and Rowlf the Dog.
Not every face that they meet is a friendly one. Doc Hopper (Charles Durning) is a restaurant magnate who is trying to start a chain of frog leg restaurants and sees Kermit as the perfect spokes-frog for the role.
The Muppets have to deal with many adversities including the meddling Doc Hopper. They work together to get a movie deal and attempt to make a musical to introduce the Muppets to the world.
