The Night Evelyn Came Out of the Grave is a 1971 Italian horror film directed by Emilio Miraglia. Set in England, the movie follows Lord Alan Cunningham (Anthony Steffen), a wealthy and troubled aristocrat who is haunted by the memory of his deceased wife Evelyn. After Evelyn's death, Lord Cunningham descends into madness and begins dating various women who resemble her. However, each time he becomes involved with a woman, someone murders her, leading Lord Cunningham to believe that Evelyn has returned from the grave to seek revenge.

The film begins with Lord Cunningham being released from a mental institution, where he was placed following the death of his wife. Back at his estate, Lord Cunningham is plagued by visions of Evelyn and becomes increasingly unhinged. His sister-in-law, Susan (Marina Malfatti), attempts to intervene and help him overcome his demons. She suggests that Lord Cunningham find other ways to cope with his grief rather than dating and killing women who resemble his deceased wife.

Despite Susan's warnings, Lord Cunningham continues his pattern of behavior and begins dating Gladys (Erika Blanc), a young and attractive woman who bears a striking resemblance to Evelyn. But when Gladys is murdered, Lord Cunningham becomes a prime suspect in her death, which leads him to discover that someone has been tampering with the graves of the recently deceased.

As the body count rises, Lord Cunningham becomes more and more unhinged, and the line between reality and delusion becomes increasingly blurred. He becomes convinced that Evelyn has returned from the grave to punish him for his sins, and he enlists the help of a psychic medium to communicate with her spirit. However, things take a turn for the worse when Lord Cunningham discovers that Evelyn may not be dead after all.

The Night Evelyn Came Out of the Grave is a compelling and atmospheric horror film that features strong performances from its lead actors. Anthony Steffen is particularly convincing as the tormented Lord Cunningham, and he manages to convey the character's descent into madness in a way that is both unsettling and believable. Marina Malfatti is also excellent as Susan, injecting a sense of empathy and compassion into the film that helps to offset some of its more gruesome moments.

In addition to its performances, the film is also notable for its creative use of low-budget special effects. While some of the practical effects are admittedly dated by modern standards, they still manage to generate a sense of suspense and tension, particularly during the film's climactic scenes.

One of the film's standout moments is its use of sound design, particularly during the scenes when Lord Cunningham is experiencing his hallucinations. The eerie and discordant sound effects that accompany these scenes help to convey the character's sense of disorientation and reinforce the film's overall sense of unease.

Overall, The Night Evelyn Came Out of the Grave is a horror classic that is sure to satisfy fans of the genre. It features strong performances, effective special effects, and a haunting score that together create a memorable and atmospheric experience.

The Night Evelyn Came Out of the Grave is a 1971 mystery with a runtime of 1 hour and 41 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.7.
