Billy the Kid has stolen Doc Holiday’s strawberry roan horse named Red and doesn’t want to give it back because he has taken a fancy to it. Billy the Kid maintains that he bought the horse Red from a stranger. However, Doc Holiday has told the sheriff that Billy the kid has stolen the horse. The sheriff of the town in Pat Garrett, who is a long time friend of Doc Holiday not only wants to arrest Billy the Kid for stealing the horse, but for murder too. Pat becomes annoyed with Doc Holiday for taking Billy the Kids side and asks that both leave town by sundown. When Billy the Kid goes to leave at night finds that someone is trying to steal the horse from him only to find out that it is a young women by the name of Rio. Billy the kid overpowers her during a struggle and she is able to get free. She condemns the gunfighter Billy the Kid for murdering her brother. Rio soon finds herself falling in love with Billy the Kid. Doc Holiday finds out he admires Billy the kid and decides to help his new friend flee from the law to a hideout. Doc Holiday and Billy the Kid try to invade the law of the old west throughout the movie which involves several adventures that include gun fights, fighting with the Indians and a gun show down.
