The Overnighters is a 2014 drama documentary that centers on the North Dakota oil boom and various people who are chasing after the mostly vain promise of a new and better life in the booming state. It takes on issues like hysteria, the American Dream, greed and social disenchantment. The film was scripted, directed and produced by Jesse Moss and won the Special Jury Award at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival on the eighteenth of July. The film was very well received upon a wider release and went on to earn many different awards and much acclaim from audiences and critics alike, primarily in the United States. The film has a one hundred percent fresh rating on the film critic aggregating web site Rotten Tomatoes and an eight point nine on the review site Metacritic.
