A socially-awkward man who lives with his parents is surprised when he gets a job with NASA. His father, hoping for much better things for his son, sent in the job application. The son becomes a janitor, which his father believes is a cover for a secret space mission. When competition heats up between NASA and the Soviets to send an ordinary person into space, the janitor begins training for the mission.
