The Nutty Professor
- 1 hr 47 min
The Nutty Professor was introduced in 1963 and stars Jerry Lewis. The film was produced by Paramount Pictures and is tagged as a science fiction comedy. The story is loosely based on Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Jerry Lewis plays the nerdy, accident-prone Professor Julius Kelp whose laboratory experiments routinely turn out disastrous. After being harassed and physically assaulted by one of the university's football stars, Professor Kelp determines to create a serum that will make him buff, cool, and popular. To his surprise, the serum actually works and turns him into a handsome and talented "hipster" to whom women are attracted. One particular lady and student, Stella Purdy, becomes attracted to the cool persona (Buddy Love). As it turns out, Buddy Love is obnoxious and conceited, and Professor Kelp doesn't care much for his character. But he continues to use the serum because he is infatuated with Ms. Purdy and craves her affection. Comical antics ensue as Professor Kelp changes to and from Buddy Love. The serum only lasts for a certain amount of time, so the situation gets a little hairy in some instances when Buddy is with Ms. Purdy. He does not want her to find out he is actually the nerdy professor. However, over time, Ms. Purdy begins to dislike Buddy Love because of his arrogance and philandering ways. Everything is tied up nicely in the end. Viewers get a happy ending and Professor Kelp gets the girl. There's even a little twist as it pertains to the professor's serum.
