This is a true story about Louis "Louie" Zamperini, a 1936 US Olympian's whose athletic career was interrupted when he was summoned to serve in WWII as a bomber pilot. When one of the plane's he was flying was shot down over the Sea of Japan, he and two other survivors were left to float in the ocean until they could be found by a rescue team. When the rescue mission failed to locate the drifting rafts, the Japanese Navy captured the brave men who spend the next couple of years in a prison of war camp where Zamperini was subjected to horrible treatment.
