This movie takes place in Scandinavia during the Second World War. It is a love story. Ann Mari is a Norwegian nurse in the Winter War that took place between the Soviet Union and Finland in 1939-1940. Ann falls in love with Markus, a Finnish soldier. When the war temporarily stops they are able to settle down in Norway. When Germany occupies Finland, Markus leaves Ann to fight to win back Finland's lost territory. When Ann believes that Markus is dead she falls in love with Maximilian, a German soldier, but Markus returns.
