Watch Three Colours: Red

Valentine is a French model who accidentally runs over a dog on her way home one night. She takes the injured animal back to its owner, a retired judge named Joseph. At first he puzzles Valentine by telling her to keep the dog and then shocks her even further by revealing he is conducting illegal surveillance of all of his neighbors. The two of them clash at first over both of these issues but slowly she begins a strange friendship with the man that changes her life and perspective.
