Tough Luck is a crime thriller that was written by Bill Boatman and Todd King. Directed by Gary Ellis, the film stars Armand Assante, Dagmara Dominczyk and Norman Reedus. The story follows the life of a drifter who is homeless. He becomes engulfed in the world of underground and illicit crime. The deceptive and chaotic world depicts Archie (played by Norman Reedus) who, just released from prison seems to have nothing to lose. Archie rips off a casino and is promptly followed and then severely beaten. Following that, he is saved by a carnival owner called Ike (played by Armand Assante) when he hires Archie to work for him. Quite soon, Ike lets it be known that the real reason he was hired was so that he could be enlisted to murder his adulterous and untrustworthy wife Divana (played by Dagmara Dominczyk). She is an erotic dancer at the carnival. Things begin to unravel as Archie starts to fall for Divana and winds up warning her that her husband is out to have her killed. As a result, they bond and become heavily involved in a very hot affair, leaving almost nothing to the viewer’s imagination. Soon after, they devise their own scheme, plotting to murder Ike themselves. The two plot for Divana to fake her death so that they can split Ike’s money between them. Instead, Archie will soon be double-crossed. When Divana is left inside of a mobile home that is set ablaze, Archie is targeted as the arsonist and murderer. One year later, Archie is on the run from police. He tracks Divana down in New Orleans where she is prostituting on the street. Turns out, he was set up so Ike could scam the Dominican casino owner (played by Rick Negron). He is using Ike's carnival in an elaborate money laundering scheme. The two return to the carnival intending to scam both Ike and the Dominican themselves. What transpires is a series of double crossing antics until the most clever one wins the game.
