Unthinkable is a film that is equal parts suspense and thriller. It was released in 2010. It stars Samuel L. Jackson and Martin Sheen. The film is about an American-born terrorist named Yusuf. Yusuf has made a videotape threatening to denote bombs in several cities in the United States if his demands are not met. FBI agent Helen Brody has been tasked with finding Yusuf and preventing him from going through with his plot. Samuel L. Jackson plays H who specializes in performing tough interrogations and getting suspects to confess. His job to force Yusuf to reveal which cities he has planted the bombs in. H is brutal and starts interrogating Yusuf by cutting off one of his fingers. Brody is horrified and tries to stop him but her superiors believe H’s brutal methods are the only way to bring an end to his plan. Yusuf wants the President of the United States to take all American troops out of Muslim countries and stop starting bad governments. In the meantime, H and Brody continue interrogating Yusuf. A bomb that Yusuf planted explodes in a shopping mall, killing over fifty people. At this point, Brody is beginning to think H’s methods may help and she is so frustrated that she cuts Yusuf’s chest. Although H begins to go too far in his methods. The FBI detains Yusuf’s wife and H ends up slitting her throat and killing her, all while Yusuf watches. H then brings in Yusuf’s children at which point the terrorist breaks down and confesses the three cities in which he has hidden a bomb. H is not convinced that they have all the information, believing that there has to be a fourth bomb. There is a lot of debate between Brody and H over what to do next. Unthinkable is a political thriller that deals with contemporary issues.
