"Vanity Fair" is an American black-and-white movie that is based on the novel of the same name by William Makepeace Thackeray. It's an updated version, though, that is set during the 1920s. Myrna Loy, in her first starring role, plays an orphan who is attending school with a much richer friend. She vows to do whatever it takes to not be poor anymore. After school, she becomes a governess and gradually rises in British society. The title is the name of a place from John Bunyan's "Pilgrim's Progress."

Vanity Fair doesn't appear to be available from any streaming services.
