Sir Wilfred Robarts is a well-known and successful barrister but also a sickly one. After being released from the hospital after a heart attack, a young and likeable man named Leonard Vole comes to him looking for help. Vole is accused of murdering a rich, older woman who took a great interest in him. Robarts takes on the case but is shocked when Mrs. Vole becomes a witness for the prosecution and strongly asserts her husband’s guilt.
