In the sixth episode of Breeders' first season, titled "No Talking," Paul and Ally are dealing with some communication issues, both with their children and with each other. As their son, Luke, struggles with a stutter at school, Ally worries that she may have inadvertently caused it by using "upspeak" - ending sentences on a high note and making them sound like questions - around him when he was younger. She becomes obsessed with learning about the speech pattern and trying to correct it, which causes tension with Paul, who thinks she's being neurotic.

Meanwhile, as they prepare for a dinner party with Paul's boss and his wife, Paul and Ally struggle to communicate their expectations for the evening and end up bickering over whether they should have background music and what they should serve for dinner. When they also realize they haven't talked about what to do with the kids during the party, they scramble to find a babysitter at the last minute and come up with a plan that involves locking the kids in their bedroom with a "spy camera" to keep an eye on them.

During the party, things quickly go off the rails as Ally's fixation on upspeak leads to an uncomfortable conversation with Paul's boss about his wife's speech patterns. Meanwhile, their daughter, Ava, becomes sick and starts vomiting, leading to chaos and worry as they try to keep her away from the guests and figure out what's wrong with her. Luke, feeling ignored and left out, causes further chaos by throwing a tantrum and accidentally kicking Paul's boss in the face.

As the night wears on, things continue to unravel, with Paul and Ally snapping at each other and trying to juggle the sick kid and the angry boss. When the babysitter bails and they're forced to put the kids to bed themselves, they finally have a moment of honesty and vulnerability as they share their fears about being bad parents and not knowing what they're doing. They even manage to laugh and connect over their shared struggles, despite the chaos and mess around them.

As the episode ends, Ally discovers that Luke's stutter isn't due to her upspeak after all, but is actually caused by a neurological condition. She and Paul come together to find resources and support for both Luke and themselves, and they end the night feeling closer and more connected than ever, despite all the mishaps and miscommunications.
