The Cathedral Basilica of Saint Denis is a large medieval abbey church in the city of Saint-Denis, now a northern suburb of Paris. The building is of unique importance historically and architecturally, as its choir, completed in 1144, is considered to be the first medieval Gothic architecture ever built.

Montmartre has been a site of worship since the beginning of time: the Gallic druids, the Romans with their temples devoted to Mars and Mercury, and Christians with the Church of St Peter, the oldest church in Paris. The Sacr© Coeur Basilica, consecrated in 1919, is one of the emblematic monuments of Paris.

Notre-Dame de Paris is located on the eastern point of the Ile de la Cité. Its western front overlooks Notre-Dame square. Its construction was spread over many decades (two centuries in total), resulting in a heterogeneous style. It possesses early Gothic characteristics (six-part vaults in the nave) and resonant Gothic.
