The episode begins with Steve waking up in a panic, drenched in sweat. It's clear that something is bothering him, but he tries to shake it off and carry on with his day. As he heads downstairs, he's greeted by his girlfriend Tracy, who is chatty and cheerful as always. However, Steve is distant and preoccupied, unable to shake the feeling that something isn't right.
Later, Steve heads to the Rovers Return, seeking solace in the familiarity of his work. However, even there, he can't escape the nagging feeling that something is about to go wrong. His friend Lloyd, noticing his unease, tries to comfort him and encourages him to talk about what's bothering him. Reluctantly, Steve reveals that he's been having a recurring dream that he can't shake off. Lloyd urges Steve to confront his fears head-on but warns him to be careful.
Meanwhile, Owen, a local businessman and Anna's ex-husband, is causing trouble once again. He's been on a mission to get back at Anna ever since their messy divorce, and his latest scheme involves disrupting the construction work at the builder's yard. Anna, determined not to let Owen get the best of her, confronts him and a heated argument ensues. It becomes clear that their animosity towards each other runs deep, and both are determined to come out on top.
Back at the pub, Steve receives a phone call that changes everything. He looks visibly shaken as he hangs up, unable to process what he's just been told. Tracy, sensing that something is terribly wrong, demands to know what's going on. Steve finally breaks down and reveals the devastating news – a close friend has died. Tracy is shocked and tries to comfort him, but Steve is inconsolable.
As the day wears on, Steve's grief intensifies. He's wracked with guilt and regret, questioning whether there was anything he could have done to prevent this tragedy. Sophie, Steve's daughter, tries to be there for her father but is also struggling with her own demons. She's been experiencing intense anxiety and panic attacks, and it's taking a toll on her daily life. Sophie desperately wants to be strong for her father, but she's starting to realize that she also needs help.
In the midst of all this turmoil, Anna receives an unexpected visitor – a mysterious woman claiming to be Owen's new girlfriend. Anna is taken aback by this revelation and confronts Owen about it. He denies any involvement with the woman and accuses Anna of trying to sabotage his relationships. Anna, seeing through his lies, dismisses him and tries to focus on rebuilding her own life.
The episode ends with Steve standing alone by a grave, filled with a mixture of sorrow and anger. He can't help but blame himself for what has happened and wonders if things could have turned out differently. The tragedy has forced him to confront his own mortality and he's left searching for answers in a world that suddenly seems uncertain.
