In an effort to gain more power and control, Livia begins to manipulate Drusus' physician, Fabricius. She convinces him to give Drusus certain medicines that she knows will not help him, causing his health to deteriorate further. All the while, she is building support and making alliances with key players in Rome, including her father-in-law, Augustus.
As tensions rise between Augustus and Tiberius, Livia sees an opportunity to gain even more power. She suggests to Augustus that they hold a grand event to showcase the achievements of Rome, both past, and present. However, Tiberius is not interested in participating in the celebration, causing tensions to mount between him and Augustus.
In the final moments of the episode, we see Livia carrying out a plan that she has been working on throughout the entire season. With the help of Hermes and Fabricius, she poisons Tiberius' food with nightshade, a deadly poison that leaves him near death. Livia's plan works, and Tiberius falls ill, leaving Livia in an even more powerful position than before.
In conclusion, "Nightshade" is a gripping episode that showcases the extent of Livia's cunning and ambition.
