Finding Me: The Series is a quintessential soap-opera style drama that chronicles the lives of a group of young black gay men living in New York City. The show explores the complexities of their relationships, both romantic and platonic, and their struggles with love, career, and self-acceptance in the vibrant yet unforgiving urban environment.

RayMartell Moore stars as Faybien Allan, a struggling writer who is torn between his love for his ex-boyfriend Lonnie (Derrick L. Briggs) and his growing attraction to the handsome and successful banker Jay (Eugene E. Turner). Faybien's best friend, Greg (Maurice Murrell), is also dealing with his own romantic entanglements, as he navigates his relationship with his boyfriend Omar (J'Nara Corbin) and his flirtation with the charming but duplicitous drag queen Kareem (Jameel Saleem).

As the series unfolds, we see each character grappling with their own personal demons, from Greg's battle with drug addiction to Faybien's struggle with self-worth and Lonnie's unresolved feelings for his ex. At the same time, they must confront the external pressures and prejudices of a society that often fails to understand or accept them.

The show's writing is sharp and incisive, packed with witty banter and searing emotional exchanges that keep the viewer hooked from episode to episode. The performances, too, are uniformly excellent, with Moore in particular giving a standout turn as Faybien, imbuing his character with a powerful sense of vulnerability and emotional complexity.

While it's easy to compare Finding Me: The Series to other queer-themed dramas like Queer as Folk or Looking, in many ways it stands on its own as a unique and compelling entry in the genre. The show's focus on the experiences of young black men in a largely white and often hostile gay community is refreshing and necessary, providing a nuanced and intersectional exploration of what it means to be queer and black in America.

Of course, the show is not without its flaws. Some of the plot twists and turns can feel a bit contrived, and there are moments where the dialogue ventures into melodrama. Additionally, the show's production values are not always top-notch, with some scenes suffering from low lighting or muffled audio. But these are minor quibbles in the grand scheme of things, and overall Finding Me: The Series is a well-crafted and compelling drama that is well worth a watch for any fans of the genre.

All in all, Finding Me: The Series is a powerful and moving portrayal of modern queer life, one that offers a unique and much-needed perspective on the experiences of black gay men in America. With its sharp writing, strong performances, and socially important themes, it's a show that deserves a wider audience and a place in the pantheon of great queer television.
