Hank Zipzer is a British children's television show that follows the adventures of a 12-year-old boy named Hank, who has dyslexia. The show is based on the books written by Henry Winkler, who also plays the character of Mr. Rock, Hank's music teacher. Season 3 Episode 3, titled Zipzers and Aliens, follows Hank and his friends on their quest to find a missing student from their school.
The episode starts with Hank being approached by Nick McKelty, his arch-nemesis, who has lost his little brother, Billy. Hank, in an effort to not only help Nick but also to show the school that he is responsible and trustworthy, aspires to find Billy. Meanwhile, Emily and Frankie plan for an alien-themed party at their house where they ask Hank to help them make some fake aliens.
The next day at school, Hank is asked by Mr. Joy, one of the school's teachers, to be a mentor for a new student, Ali, who has just arrived from Syria and doesn't know a word of English. While Hank's friends make fun of Ali because of his lack of communication, Hank takes it upon himself to make sure Ali feels welcome and comfortable. Gradually, as Hank puts in more time with Ali, he recognizes that Ali is a good person who just needs time and help.
In the meantime, Hank, Emily, and Frankie continue to work on putting together the alien-themed party. They decide to go all out and create a spaceship in Emily's backyard. Unbeknownst to them, their spaceship catches the attention of Dr. Lawrence, a famous scientist whose hobby is tracking UFO sightings. When he sees the spaceship, he alerts the rest of his team and they make their way to Emily's house to investigate.
On the day of the party, the entire school is dressed in alien costumes, and even Mr. Rock comes to the party dressed as Ziggy Stardust. Everyone is having a great time until Ali goes missing. Hank retraces Ali's steps and finds him hiding in the spaceship, scared and confused. Hank, being the hero he is, comforts Ali and takes him back to the party where everyone is relieved to see him.
As the episode comes to an end, Nick finally finds his brother Billy with the help of Mr. Rock and his band, and Dr. Lawrence and his team leave after realizing that the spaceship was just a prop for the party. Ultimately, the story of Zipzers and Aliens is about accepting people for who they are, regardless of their differences.
Overall, the episode is an entertaining mix of comedy and drama with a message about inclusivity and empathy towards people who might be different from us. It is a fun watch for children and adults alike, with some great writing and acting. The characters are endearing, and the plot moves at a steady pace, making it an enjoyable episode in the season.
