In Horace and Pete season 1 episode 2, tensions continue to rise as Horace and Pete's dysfunction and family drama come to light. The bar is set to be seized by the bank, and while Pete is willing to go down with the ship, Horace is desperate to save it. Meanwhile, their cousin Sylvia shows up with an unexpected revelation that threatens to tear the family apart even further.

As usual, the episode is filmed almost entirely within the bar, with the camera moving from character to character as they each have their moment to shine. We see glimpses of the lives of the regulars, from an elderly couple who have been coming to the bar for decades to a young couple on a first date.

Throughout the episode, Horace struggles with how to save the bar. He considers selling it to a developer, but ultimately decides against it after a conversation with the bank's representative. In a touching scene, Horace breaks the news to Pete that they're going to lose the bar, and they reminisce about their childhood.

Meanwhile, the arrival of Sylvia adds a new layer of complexity to the family dynamic. She reveals that their father may not have died of a heart attack, as they had all previously believed, but may have killed himself due to the shame of something that happened in his past. This revelation sends shockwaves through the family, and leads to a heated argument between Horace and Sylvia.

As always, the acting in the episode is superb. Louis C.K. and Steve Buscemi continue to deliver nuanced, compelling performances as the dysfunctional brothers. Alan Alda is particularly impressive in this episode, delivering a powerful monologue about the importance of family and tradition.

Overall, Horace and Pete season 1 episode 2 is another excellent installment in this dark, complex drama. The tension continues to build, and we're left wondering what will happen to the bar and the family next.
