Inspector Dupin is a French crime drama that follows the journey of an eccentric detective named Nicolas Dupin who solves mysterious cases in the scenic coastal town of Concarneau, Brittany. In season 1, episode 5, titled "Brittany's Tide," Dupin finds himself in the middle of a high-profile murder investigation when a well-known artist is found dead on a local beach.

The episode opens with Dupin and his team arriving at the crime scene, where they discover the lifeless body of renowned artist Julien Bosco. The scene looks like a classic case of drowning but the tide was out, and the rocks on the beach suggest that the tide had been out for a long time. As they investigate further, they realize that the circumstances surrounding the death are anything but straightforward.

Bosco is a popular artist in the area known for his highly sought-after paintings of the local landscape. In the days leading up to his death, he had been working on a new painting that was supposed to be the centerpiece of his upcoming art exhibition. But his painting was stolen and he was found dead the next day. The question on everyone's mind is whether the theft and the murder are connected.

Dupin soon learns that Bosco had many secrets, and many enemies. He was involved in a bitter dispute with a local businessman over a piece of land that he needed for his inspiration, and had several romantic liaisons with younger women. The artist's wife, Stephanie, is initially a prime suspect because of her strange behavior and their tense relationship, but her alibi checks out.

Dupin and his team interview several suspects and witnesses, including Stephanie's lover, Bosco's ex-lover, and the businessman he was in a legal fight with, but they all seem to have airtight alibis. Meanwhile, a new lead emerges when Dupin discovers that Bosco had exhibited a strange change in personality shortly before his death, becoming withdrawn and paranoid. He begins to suspect that something out of the ordinary was happening in Bosco's life that led to his death.

The investigation takes a dramatic turn when Dupin and his team discover a clue that takes them to an abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of town. There, they find Bosco's missing painting, surrounded by several empty paint cans. Dupin realizes that Bosco was not just an artist but also a drug user. His inquiry leads him to an underground dealer, which helped Bosco with the drugs.

However, as Dupin closes in on the killer, he realizes that the case is not as simple as it looks. A shocking twist in the tale leaves everyone stunned, and Dupin is left to decide whether to reveal the truth and hand over the killer or keep the secret hidden to bring some stability in the life of people close to Bosco.

"Brittany's Tide" is a perfect example of what makes Inspector Dupin such a great show. The characters are interesting, and the mystery is compelling. The show skillfully navigates the line between thriller and drama, with plenty of twists and turns to keep audiences engaged throughout the episode. Overall, Inspector Dupin season 1 episode 5 is a must-watch for any fans of crime dramas or mystery shows.
