Kimi wa Pet, which translates to You're My Pet, is a Japanese romance drama series that follows the life of Sumire Iwaya, a successful journalist who finds herself struggling to balance her personal and professional life. The show is based on a manga of the same name by Yayoi Ogawa and has gained popularity for its unique storyline and engaging characters.
The first episode of Kimi wa Pet starts with Sumire returning home from a long day at work to find her boyfriend cheating on her with her coworker. Heartbroken and lost, she wanders the streets and ends up rescuing a young man who was being beaten up by a group of bullies. In a moment of vulnerability, Sumire offers to take him home with her and let him live in her apartment until he can get back on his feet.
The young man, who introduces himself as Takeshi Goda, is hesitant at first but eventually warms up to Sumire and agrees to stay with her. Sumire, on the other hand, starts to view Takeshi as her own pet and even starts to refer to him as Momo, the name of her childhood dog. Despite the awkwardness of the situation, Sumire and Takeshi develop an unlikely bond and begin to rely on each other for support.
As the episode progresses, viewers get to see a glimpse of Sumire's personal life, including her strained relationship with her family and her ambitious career goals. We also get to see a different side of Takeshi, who is revealed to be a talented dancer but is struggling to find a job due to his lack of formal education.
The highlight of the episode comes towards the end when Sumire and Takeshi attend a work party together and Takeshi is mistaken for Sumire's boyfriend. Despite the awkwardness of the situation, Sumire feels a strange sense of comfort being able to introduce Takeshi to her colleagues as her own.
Overall, the first episode of Kimi wa Pet does an excellent job of introducing the main characters and setting up the premise of the show. Viewers are bound to fall in love with the quirky and endearing characters and will be left wanting to see more of Sumire and Takeshi's unique relationship.
