Ep 7. Ladies and Gentlemen

In the seventh episode of Master of None season one, titled "Ladies and Gentlemen," the show takes a departure from its usual format to present a series of vignettes that explore different feminist issues facing women in the modern world.

The episode begins with Dev and Arnold at a bar, discussing their dating lives. Dev remarks that women have it so much harder than men when it comes to dating, as they are constantly judged on their appearance and expected to make the first move. Arnold disagrees, stating that men face their own set of challenges, like having to pay for everything and having to initiate all conversation.

From there, the episode transitions to a series of scenes featuring women navigating their various struggles and triumphs in life. In one scene, a woman named Rachel tries to get a cab but is continually passed over in favor of men. She eventually gets fed up and decides to take matters into her own hands, stealing a bike to get to her destination.

In another vignette, a group of women gathers for a baby shower. One woman, Denise, brings her girlfriend along, much to the surprise and discomfort of some of the other guests. As they all play a game guessing the baby's gender, Denise points out how limiting and binary it is to expect everyone to fit into neat little boxes.

The episode also explores issues of sexual harassment and assault. In one scene, a woman named Lisa tries to report her male co-worker for making inappropriate passes at her. She is met with disbelief and skepticism from her boss and HR representative, who suggest that she must have been leading the man on in some way.

Another vignette follows a woman named Charlotte as she attempts to navigate a music festival. She is constantly accosted by men trying to dance with her or grope her, and eventually has a breakdown in the crowd. She is rescued by a group of women who band together to form a barrier around her, protecting her from further harassment.

Overall, the episode is a powerful exploration of the many different ways that women are still fighting for equality and respect in the modern world. By highlighting so many different stories and points of view, Master of None does an excellent job of demonstrating just how complex and nuanced these issues really are.
