Ep 5. Can't Save You

Ray Shoesmith is back in the fifth episode of Mr Inbetween season 2, Can't Save You. The episode begins with Ray and his daughter Brittany visiting a pet shop since she wants a new kitten. Ray is contemplating his romantic relationships in his head while Brittany looks for the perfect cat. At one point, Ray notices a car outside the pet shop, parked across the street. The episode is filled with Ray's usual persona and conflicts, with a mix of dark humor, crime, violence, and some family bonding moments.

Ray is struggling to maintain his relationship with Ally, his girlfriend. In this episode, he tries to take her on a romantic picnic and even plans out the perfect locations for the meal. However, his dream date is ruined when a group of teenagers comes over and starts throwing stones at them. Ray loses his cool and makes a risky move, involving a slingshot and a nearby construction site. Ray might have saved the date, but whether he will be able to keep his temper, and his relationship with Ally, remains to be seen.

Meanwhile, Ray's ex-wife, Jacinta, is stuck in a dangerous situation as her current boyfriend is heavily in debt to a gangster named George. George becomes aware of Ray and Jacinta's past and asks Ray to pay the debt in exchange for keeping Jacinta safe. Ray is stuck in a dilemma as he tries to convince Jacinta to get away from the situation and even tries to negotiate with George for a partial payment. However, George is not an easy man to negotiate with, and Ray realizes that he will have to take a more aggressive approach.

As usual, Ray is also dealing with his professional life as a hitman. His latest assignement introduces a new character, Benny, who is a troubled young man who is very paranoid and unstable. Ray has to keep a watch over him, make sure he doesn't do anything stupid, and eventually takes on a more dangerous mission. Benny's character is well-written, and he definitely brings a new element to the show, with his erratic behavior. The episode leaves a lot of questions open about Benny, and it will be interesting to see how his storyline develops in the future episodes.

Can't Save You may not be the most exciting episode of Mr Inbetween, but it is still engaging, with a good mix of character development and action. The episode is filled with various conflicts that feel real, and Ray's character continues to be one of the show's strongest highlights. His humor, charisma, and sense of morality make him a very complex character, and the writers have done an excellent job of balancing his likability with his criminal activities. The show also takes its time to develop the other characters, and in this episode we get to see more of Ally, Jacinta, and Brittany, and their relationships with Ray.

Overall, Can't Save You is a solid episode of Mr Inbetween season 2 that should satisfy fans of the show. The series continues to be one of the best currently on the air and Ray Shoesmith remains one of the most charismatic anti-heroes on TV right now. The episode leaves us with a lot of questions and it will be exciting to see what direction the show takes in the future.
