No Good Nick is a sitcom with a family-friendly rating that premiered back in April 2019. The show follows a young girl named Nick who is a skilled con artist and a master of disguise. Because of her incredible abilities, Nick decides to take on a new identity and pose as a distant relative of a wealthy family, the Thompsons. Nick's plan is to gain their trust, infiltrate their lives and ultimately wreak havoc on their stability. She thinks that by posing as a well-meaning orphan, she can con the family into taking her in and potentially gain access to their wealth. However, things don't always go according to plan, and Nick quickly realizes that she's in for a wild ride.
In season 1 episode 1 titled "The Catfish," Nick assumes her new identity as a young teen girl named Nicole. With a duffel bag in her hand, she marches up the Thompsons' driveway, ready to immerse herself in the lives of strangers. When she arrives at their doorstep, she puts on her best sad face and tells a heart-wrenching story about her family passing away, leaving her with nowhere to go. Her tears and dramatic story are so convincing that the Thompsons can't help but take her in.
At first, things go smoothly for Nick. She stays respectful and helpful to the Thompsons, wanting to win their hearts and, in turn, gain easy access to their wealth. However, as the day goes on, she realizes that maybe the Thompsons weren't as easy to con as she initially thought. The youngest member of the family, Jeremy, is a tech-savvy kid who gives Nick quite the runaround with his computer skills. Nick has to come up with a clever way to outsmart him that will take her years of practice as a con artist.
Meanwhile, Liz, the matriarch of the Thompson family, has her own suspicions about Nick. Although she's happy to welcome her into the family, she can't shake the feeling that something isn't right. She finds clues that suggest that Nick isn't who she says she is, but she doesn't know what to do with her findings. She tells her husband, Ed, who convinces her that she's just being paranoid, and they should give Nick a chance.
Throughout the episode, we see Nick trying to make her mark on the Thompsons and gain their trust. However, she quickly sees that it's not easy to fool them after all. Her attempts to gain Jeremy's approval fail, and she can't seem to get through to Liz and Ed. As she deals with her struggles, she also has to keep her eye on the prize and remain undercover. Only time will tell if she can keep up the charade and ultimately succeed in conning the Thompsons out of their riches.
Overall, the pilot episode of No Good Nick is a fun and enjoyable sitcom. The series does well in setting up the characters and the main plot of the show. It's easy to see that there's a lot of potential for future episodes and that the characters will continue to develop throughout the series.
