Ep 1. Episode 1
- August 31, 2018
Paradise PD is an adult animated sitcom that follows a group of bumbling police officers in the fictitious town of Paradise. The series is created by Waco O'Guin and Roger Black, who are also known for creating the show Brickleberry. The show debuted on Netflix on August 31, 2018, and has since released three seasons.
The first episode of the series introduces us to the main characters and sets the tone for the rest of the season. The episode is titled "Welcome to Paradise" and begins with an opening monologue by Chief Randall Crawford (Tom Kenny).
Chief Crawford is the head of the Paradise Police Department, which consists of a group of underqualified and overzealous officers. He begins his monologue by boasting about the town's low crime rate and how the police department hasn't had to use their guns in years. However, as soon as he finishes his speech, chaos erupts.
The first scene takes us to a drug bust that goes wrong. Two officers, Kevin Crawford (David Herman) and Bullet (Kyle Kinane) are attempting to arrest a drug dealer, but things quickly spiral out of control. In the end, Kevin accidentally shoots himself, and Bullet sets the entire building on fire. This sets the tone for the rest of the show, which is filled with over-the-top and unrealistic situations.
The next scene takes us to the police station, where we are introduced to the rest of the characters. The first officer we meet is Gina Jabowski (Sarah Chalke). Gina is the only competent cop in the department and is constantly annoyed by her colleagues' incompetence. She is also the daughter of the police chief and has a complex relationship with her father.
We are also introduced to Fitz (Dana Snyder), who is the department's K-9 unit. However, Fitz is not a real police dog but a drug addict who has been trained to detect drugs. He is often high on various substances and is one of the funniest characters in the series.
The other members of the department include Dusty Marlow (Cedric Yarbrough), who is obsessed with his lowrider car, and his partner, Hopson (Marcus Henderson), who is a former stripper. Lastly, we meet Stanley Hopson (David Herman), who is Chief Crawford's right-hand man and often the butt of everyone's jokes.
The rest of the episode focuses on the department's attempts to solve a string of robberies that have been happening in town. The officers are tasked with finding the culprit, but their incompetence gets in the way. They end up accusing innocent people and causing more harm than good.
The episode concludes with a high-speed chase through town that results in the destruction of multiple vehicles and buildings. The culprit is eventually caught, but only by sheer luck. The episode ends with Chief Crawford addressing the town and promising to do better in the future. However, it is clear that the department will never be able to get it together.
Overall, the first episode of Paradise PD is a hilarious and chaotic introduction to the world of the show. The characters are all unique and funny, and the situations they find themselves in are ridiculous. The animation style is similar to that of Brickleberry, and fans of that show will definitely enjoy this one. If you're looking for a show that doesn't take itself too seriously and will make you laugh out loud, this is the one for you.
