In Peaky Blinders season 2 episode 2, tensions continue to rise as the Shelby family tries to navigate their complex web of business dealings and dangerous alliances. Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy) is still working closely with the mysterious Jewish gangster Alfie Solomons (Tom Hardy), despite the objections of his brothers and his fiercely protective aunt Polly (Helen McCrory).

Meanwhile, Inspector Campbell (Sam Neill) is becoming increasingly desperate to catch the Shelbys in the act, and is using every resource at his disposal to try to turn the tables on them. He enlists the help of Grace Burgess (Annabelle Wallis), a former lover of Tommy's who now works as a barmaid at the Garrison pub. Grace is torn between her loyalty to the Shelbys and her desire to prove her worth to Campbell, who promises to help her climb the social ladder.

As the Shelbys prepare for a massive horse race that could make or break their financial fortunes, tensions between the family members come to a head. Arthur (Paul Anderson) is still struggling with his PTSD from the war, and his volatile outbursts are causing friction with the rest of the family. Meanwhile, John (Joe Cole) is starting to question his loyalty to the gang and his own place in the world.

Throughout the episode, we see glimpses of the past that help to flesh out the characters' backstories and motivations. We learn more about Polly's traumatic past and her struggles with addiction, as well as the complicated history between Alfie and the Shelbys. The show continues to be visually stunning, with gritty and beautifully shot scenes that capture the raw violence and beauty of the time period.

Despite the dark subject matter and intense drama, there are also moments of levity and humor. The interactions between Alfie and Tommy are particularly entertaining, and their verbal sparring is both hilarious and unsettling.

Overall, Peaky Blinders season 2 episode 2 is a tense and gripping installment that sets the stage for what promises to be a thrilling season. The characters are complex and multifaceted, and the writing is both clever and unexpected. With its stunning visuals and unrelenting tension, this episode is sure to keep viewers on the edge of their seats from beginning to end.
