Pitchin' In is a TV series that follows Chef Lynn Crawford as she travels the world to explore where food comes from. In season 1 episode 5, titled Goat's Cheese, Chef Lynn journeys to St. Mary’s in Nova Scotia, Canada to visit Mostly Goats farm.

Upon her arrival, Chef Lynn meets with owners Lisa and Patrick who give her a tour of their farm filled with goats and milk. Lisa explains that she learned how to make cheese from her grandmother and grandfather, who passed down their knowledge and expertise. Chef Lynn gets a hands-on experience at working with the goats, milking them and learning about their personalities and care.

Next, Chef Lynn visits another local goat farmer, Tracy and her farmhouse-based cheese operation. Chef Lynn learns about the different sizes of the cheese wheels that Tracy makes based on the aging time. Tracy gives Chef Lynn a sample taste of her favorite goat cheese, which she serves with olive oil and baguette slices.

After her visits with the goat farmers, Chef Lynn travels to the nearby town of Sherbrooke to visit the local cheese shop, The Black Duck Cafe, operated by Annie. The shop stocks an extensive range of goat cheeses from various local farmers. Chef Lynn samples the Goatino, an ash-coated, pyramid-shaped goat cheese, and a delicious blue cheese.

While Chef Lynn is in St. Mary's, she also attends the St. Mary's River Association annual fish fry, which is a fundraising event for the local environmental organization and a chance to try some seafood-based dishes. She works with the volunteers to cook up some locally caught mackerel and salmon on the barbeque.

Back at the farm, Chef Lynn prepares a meal for the family and friends of Mostly Goats farm. Her menu features goat cheese in every course, including appetizers of goat cheese crostini with red onion jam and a goat cheese and beet salad. The main course is a slow-roasted leg of lamb with garlic and rosemary, served with goat cheese polenta and grilled vegetables.

Throughout the episode, Chef Lynn describes the passion and care that goes into the goat cheese making process, and how important it is to support local farmers. She emphasizes the quality of goat cheese compared to cow's milk cheese and how it can be used in many dishes.

Overall, Pitchin' In season 1 episode 5 is an educational and entertaining look at the world of goat cheese and the dedicated farmers who produce it. Chef Lynn Crawford highlights the significance of using high-quality ingredients and supporting local agriculture while showcasing delicious and creative dishes.
