Ep 1. ISSUE #101: How Do You Raise a Superhero?

In the first episode of Raising Dion season 1 titled "Issue #101: How Do You Raise a Superhero?", we are introduced to Nicole Warren and her son Dion Warren. Nicole is a single mother who is working hard to make ends meet and give her son a good life. Dion is a sweet, smart kid who has a love for science and superheroes. The episode starts with Nicole waking up to a stormy morning and getting ready for her job as a professional dancer. Dion wakes up excited about his first day of second grade and tells his mom about his dream to become a superhero when he grows up.

As Nicole goes to work, we see that she is dancing for a prestigious dance company and is passionate about her work. But we also see incidents that hint that there is more to Nicole than meets the eye. Dion, on the other hand, struggles on his first day of school where he is bullied by a classmate. Nicole assures him that he will make friends eventually and tells him about his father, Mark, who was a scientist. She gives Dion a comic book that Mark had made about a superhero called The Olympian who he hoped would inspire Dion.

Later, Nicole meets her friend Charlotte who tells her about a guy she met at a party who can control the weather. This piques Nicole's interest and she starts researching about people who have supernatural abilities. When she comes home, she finds Dion playing with a model of a circuit board and asks him about it. Dion explains that he learned about circuits from his dad and that he's been trying to make a superhero suit for himself. Nicole is both touched and worried and decides to tell him about his father's death.

Nicole receives a call from her boss who tells her that she has a solo performance the next day. She is excited but also worried about how she would manage with Dion. She asks her neighbor Pat to babysit Dion, who is also her friend. While Nicole is at her performance, Pat takes Dion to a science museum where they see a lightning strike hit a man-made lightning rod. This causes a strange event where Dion disappears for a moment and Pat is left bewildered. Dion reappears unharmed and oblivious to what just happened.

At the end of the episode, Nicole comes home to see Dion asleep and a closet door slightly open. When she opens the door, she sees the superhero suit Dion made. She is both impressed and terrified at how much Dion believes in becoming a superhero. She decides to take a break from work to fully focus on raising Dion and helping him understand his abilities.

"Issue #101: How Do You Raise a Superhero?" is a great start to the series. The first episode establishes the main characters and their struggles while also setting up the mystery of Dion's powers. The episode is filled with heartwarming moments between the mother-son duo while also introducing some intriguing elements that would make the viewer curious about the rest of the series. The episode ends on a cliffhanger that hints at the possibilities of what Dion's powers can do and how they can be harnessed for good or bad.
