When it comes to home renovations, old is gold. Brett Waterman proves that yet again in the latest episode of Restored season 5 - 1955 Mid-century Ranch. In this episode, Brett takes on a unique challenge by restoring a 1955 mid-century ranch in Riverside, California. The home's aesthetic is inspired by the iconic American West and features natural building materials and a classic ranch-style design.

The homeowners, Melisa and Scott, realized that the home, which had been in Melisa's family since the 1960s, needed some serious work. Almost every corner of the house was outdated, and the walls and floors were covered with different layers of materials from various renovation attempts over the years.

As soon as Brett arrived on site, he could see that this project was going to be one of his most challenging yet. The house's existing design demanded an intricate restoration process that would involve peeling back all the piled-up layers to get to the house's core. Brett saw it as an opportunity to shine by recreating the home's original beauty with a touch of modern-day elegance.

The living room was the first area that Brett tackled, and it came with its own set of unique features. The home had a floor-to-ceiling fireplace and a striped wall-covering made from an outdated scratchy rug material. Brett knew that the wallcovering had to go, but he also knew that the fireplace was an essential feature that he needed to preserve. Brett cleverly restored the fireplace and gave it a fresh coat of paint to match the room's new theme.

Next up was the kitchen, where Brett faced the challenge of the home's narrow and compact space. He needed to modernize the kitchen while still keeping it aligned with the home's original mid-century ranch design. Brett chose to go with open shelving, new appliances, and bright cabinet colors to make the space appear more spacious than it actually was.

The guest bedroom and bathroom provided Brett with his most significant challenges. The guest room was tiny and had a lot of awkward corners, making it hard to set up the space. In the end, Brett decided to install a Murphy bed that could easily retract to create extra room when needed.

This also gave him the opportunity to create custom cabinetry for the guests to store their belongings.

Meanwhile, the guest bathroom was too outdated and needed a complete remodel. Brett decided to do away with the bathtub, which gave the bathroom more space and allowed him to install an oversized vanity with double sinks. Brett certainly did not disappoint with the results - the guest bathroom transformation was incredibly successful.

The last space that Brett tackled was the master suite, which was the largest area in the entire house. The homeowners were looking to create a sanctuary that was both calming and tranquil. Brett did just that by going with a neutral color scheme with the occasional pop of color for effect. He also installed custom cabinetry to replace the old closet that was unusable and gave the couple a built-in vanity.

Brett's attention to detail and the preservation of the home's existing design make Restored season 5 episode 3 the perfect example of what can be achieved through restoration and home renovation. From the mix of materials that reflect the structure's Mid-century ranch design to the new improvements that give it a modern and luxurious feel, Brett's skillful restoration makes this house feel like a home.
