In this episode of Rick Steves' Europe, we travel to Turkey's western region, known for its incredible history and stunning scenery. Rick begins his journey in the vibrant city of Istanbul, where he explores the bazaars, tries traditional foods, and visits the iconic Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia.

Next, Rick heads to the ancient city of Troy, famous for being the site of the Trojan War. He visits the ruins of the city and learns about its fascinating history. From there, Rick makes his way to the nearby city of Pergamon, where he explores the impressive Acropolis perched atop a hill.

Continuing his exploration of Turkey's rich history, Rick visits the ruins of the ancient city of Ephesus. Here, he marvels at the stunning Library of Celsus and the impressive theater where St. Paul once preached. Rick also takes a dip in the nearby Aegean Sea and observes the traditional carpet making process.

Moving inland, Rick visits the town of Konya, known for its connection to Sufism and the poet Rumi. He visits Rumi's mausoleum and learns about the history and teachings of the Sufi religion. From there, Rick heads to the fairy-tale like landscape of Cappadocia, where he explores the unique rock formations and visits an underground city.

The episode culminates in the coastal town of Bodrum, where Rick takes in the stunning views of the Aegean Sea and visits the impressive Castle of St. Peter. He also learns about the local craftsmanship of boat building and tries his hand at building a traditional Turkish wooden sailboat.

Through his travels in Turkey's west, Rick Steves showcases the country's incredible history, natural beauty, and vibrant culture, giving viewers a glimpse into this unique destination.
