In the third episode of State of Happiness season 1 titled The Summer House, the series continues to follow the journey of four individuals in the changing energy industry in Norway during the 1960s. We start off with a scene where the CEO of the Alberta Oil Company, Christian Nyman, is visiting Bergen and is introduced to Jostein Nilsen, his new subordinate in the local office. Christian seems to be interested in getting to know Jostein and also wants him to get close to his wife. This does not go unnoticed by Jostein, who seems to be uncomfortable with the idea.

Meanwhile, Anna Hellevik, a young woman who survived the tragedy of the town being submerged in water due to the building of a hydroelectric power plant, gets a job offer to work at a publishing house in Oslo. She is unsure about whether to take the job and leave her hometown of Stavanger, but eventually decides to go for it.

In Stavanger, we also see the continuation of the love story between Aksel Nilsen, Jostein's brother, and Eva Hellevik, Anna's sister. They go on a date to a fancy restaurant, where Eva accidentally spits her food out and this causes a bit of embarrassment. However, Aksel finds the incident endearing and they continue to enjoy their time together.

Back at the office, Jostein is put in charge of finding a summer house for Christian and his wife. He visits a couple of properties and finally finds one that Christian approves of. However, there seems to be some tension between Jostein and Christian due to the former's lack of enthusiasm for the job. Additionally, Jostein is still unsure about how to navigate Christian's advances towards him.

The episode ends with Anna leaving for Oslo and saying goodbye to her family and friends. Jostein sees her off at the train station, and there seems to be some unresolved tension between the two. We are left wondering whether Jostein will be able to find his place in the changing energy industry and whether Anna's decision to leave Stavanger will be the right one.

Overall, the third episode of State of Happiness season 1 does a great job of building on the characters and themes established in the previous episodes. We get a sense of the changing social and political landscape of Norway during the 1960s, and how this impacts the characters' personal and professional lives. The performances continue to be strong, and the writing is nuanced and complex. We are left eager to see what happens next for Anna, Jostein, Aksel, and Eva.
