In the premiere episode of Trust, titled "The House of Getty," the audience is transported back to 1973 and introduced to the Getty family, one of the wealthiest families in the world. The episode centers around the kidnapping of the teenage grandson of the family's patriarch, oil tycoon J. Paul Getty.

The episode begins with J. Paul Getty's eldest son, George, visiting his father's lavish estate in England, where he discovers that his father has relocated to a remote mansion in the countryside. The elder Getty is hesitant to return to the United States, as he fears that he will be kidnapped due to his immense wealth. Despite George's attempts to convince his father to return to America, J. Paul remains steadfast in his decision to stay in England.

Meanwhile, in Rome, a group of young men are discussing possible targets for a kidnapping. They stumble upon the idea of kidnapping one of the Getty grandchildren, seeing a potential payday in the family's immense wealth. They set their sights on John Paul Getty III, or "Paul," as he's called by his family.

Paul, who lives in Rome and has been living a bohemian lifestyle, hangs out with a group of young artists and musicians. He is enamored with a young Italian girl named Martine, who convinces him to accompany her on a trip to the Italian countryside. While there, Paul is ambushed by the kidnappers, who abduct him and demand a ransom of $17 million from the Getty family.

The kidnapping sets off a chain reaction within the Getty family. J. Paul Getty, who initially refuses to pay the ransom, citing that he has 14 other grandchildren and can't possibly pay for all of their potential kidnappings, soon realizes that the situation is serious. He enlists the help of his former CIA operative head of security, Fletcher Chace, to negotiate with the kidnappers and retrieve his grandson.

As negotiations between the kidnappers and the Getty family continue, tensions rise within the family itself. George Getty is left to handle much of the business, as his father is largely absent and his younger brother, Timothy, is too young to help. George faces pressure from the rest of the family to secure his nephew's release, but is constantly met with roadblocks and setbacks.

Meanwhile, Paul's mother, Abigail, is left to grieve and reflect on her family's complicated past. She grapples with her ex-husband's role in the kidnapping and her own feelings of guilt and responsibility. As the days drag on, and Paul's release seems increasingly unlikely, Abigail begins to despair.

The episode concludes with Fletcher Chace on the trail of the kidnappers, heading to a remote location in Italy to retrieve Paul. The audience is left wondering if he will succeed in bringing Paul home and what the repercussions will be for the Getty family.

Trust's premiere episode sets the stage for a thrilling and complex series that explores the intricacies of power, wealth, and family dynamics. As the audience watches the Getty family grapple with the kidnapping of one of their own, they are drawn into a world of excess and privilege that is both fascinating and disturbing. The House of Getty is just the beginning of a story that will keep viewers on the edge of their seats.
