In Trust season 1 episode 7, titled Kodachrome, the focus is on Primo (Luca Marinelli), one of the lead kidnappers, who is tasked with the job of developing the ransom film that was shot by John Paul Getty III (Harris Dickinson) during his capture. Primo, who is a devoted Communist, finds himself at odds with the others in the group, who are only interested in the money and not the political implications of the kidnapping.

The episode begins with Primo being taken into custody by the Italian police, who are trying to find out the location of John Paul Getty III. Primo, who is fiercely committed to his political beliefs, refuses to give in to their demands and plans his escape. Meanwhile, the kidnappers are running out of time, and tensions are high as they try to decide what to do with their captive.

As Primo sets about developing the film, he discovers that it contains some fascinating images of the Getty family, including his grandfather, J. Paul Getty (Donald Sutherland). Primo is intrigued by the Getty family’s vast wealth and the power that comes with it. He begins to think about the Communist cause he has been fighting for and whether it truly represents the best interests of the people he is trying to help.

Throughout the episode, there are several flashbacks to Primo’s life before the kidnapping, which give some insight into his motivations. We see him as a young boy, spending time with his family and listening to his father talk about the Communist revolution. As he grows older, Primo becomes more involved in the movement, but he is always questioning whether it is really making a difference.

As Primo develops the film, he begins to form a bond with John Paul Getty III. At first, they are both cautious around each other, but they soon start to open up and share their thoughts and feelings. The conversations they have lead Primo to question his Communist beliefs even further. He starts to see the complex and multifaceted nature of people, and how it’s not always a simple matter of “us vs. them.”

As the episode progresses, the tension between the kidnappers continues to mount. They are desperate for the ransom money, but they are also aware that time is running out. When a member of the group is killed in a shootout with the police, they start to realize that they may never get the money they were hoping for. This realization leads to some difficult decisions about what to do with John Paul Getty III.

In the end, the episode ends on a cliffhanger, leaving the audience wondering what the next steps in the kidnapping are. However, the focus on Primo and his journey towards questioning his beliefs is a highlight of the episode. The show does a great job of exploring the motivations and psychology of the characters, making them feel real and relatable. Overall, Kodachrome is a strong episode of Trust that advances the plot while also deepening our understanding of the characters.
