Ep 1. Kimmy Goes Outside!

Kimmy Schmidt has spent the last 15 years living in a bunker with three other women after being kidnapped by a doomsday prepper. After being rescued by the police, Kimmy decides to start afresh in New York City. She finds an apartment with an eccentric landlady named Lillian and begins her search for a job.

In the first episode, "Kimmy Goes Outside!", we see Kimmy walking through Times Square with her new friend and roommate, Titus Andromedon. As they walk, Titus tries to educate Kimmy on how to survive in the big city. They stop at a hot dog stand and Kimmy enjoys her first "foot-long wiener". However, things take a turn when Titus leaves to audition for a role in a musical and Kimmy realizes she doesn't have her backpack, which contains all of her money and ID.

Panicked and with no way of reaching Titus, Kimmy runs away from a police officer who tries to help her. She then finds herself in front of a therapist's office, and after realizing she has no idea who she is anymore, she decides to go in and seek help. The therapist, Dr. Andrea Bayden, is initially skeptical of Kimmy's story but is eventually convinced by her sincerity.

Dr. Bayden helps Kimmy realize that she has a lot of work to do to catch up on the past 15 years. Kimmy also realizes that she wants to be more independent and learn how to do things on her own. The therapist offers to take Kimmy shopping for some new clothes and helps her set up a new bank account, both of which are successful.

Meanwhile, as Kimmy is learning to navigate the city, she and Titus become closer friends. When Titus tells her about his struggles to make it as a performer, Kimmy encourages him to keep trying and never give up on his dreams. The episode ends with Kimmy feeling hopeful about her new life in New York City.

"Kimmy Goes Outside!" sets up the premise of the show and introduces us to the characters we will be following throughout the series. It also touches on some of the themes that the show will explore, such as trauma, resilience, and the power of friendship. The episode is both heartwarming and funny, and sets the tone for the rest of the series.
