Cuckoo is a BBC Three sitcom that premiered in 2012 and ran for five seasons until 2018. The show is set in Lichfield, Staffordshire and centers around the Thompson family. The premise of the show is based on the fact that Cuckoo, the hippie husband of the daughter of the family, disappeared in the Himalayas during a trip with his wife, Rachel, and daughter, from whom he was born in prison. The Thompson family has been mourning his death for a long time, but their grief is interrupted when Cuckoo suddenly reappears in Lichfield and wants to move in with them.

Greg Davies plays the role of the father, Ken Thompson, a conservative and conventional man who works as a solicitor. When Cuckoo first arrives, he appears as a free-spirit and a complete contrast to Ken. Cuckoo is played by actor Taylor Lautner, who is most well-known for his role as Jacob Black in the Twilight film series. This role is quite different for Lautner, as he plays a role very far away from his usual tough-guy persona. Cuckoo is all about peace and love, and his laid-back approach to life often clashes with Ken's traditional values.

Helen Baxendale plays the role of Rachel, Ken's daughter and Cuckoo's wife. Rachel is a bit of a lost soul, and her introduction of Cuckoo into the family causes conflict between her and her father. The situation is further complicated by the arrival of Dylan, Rachel's brother, played by Tyger Drew-Honey. Dylan is a younger version of Ken, a traditional kind of guy, but he is not without his own issues.

The dynamic between the characters is the driving force of the show, which is essentially a family sitcom. Cuckoo disrupts the household's middle-class values and traditional way of life, and his oddball character traits provide a comedic edge to the show. The show's writers have done an excellent job of balancing Cuckoo's unconventional traits with the traditional values of the Thompson family, creating a narrative that is both funny and poignant.

Despite the show being centered around Cuckoo, there are numerous subplots within the show that add depth to the characters. For example, Esther Smith plays the role of Rachel's friend, who is wheelchair-bound. Her relationship with Dylan develops throughout the show and serves to add extra layers to the narrative. Matt Lacey plays the role of Cuckoo's companion, who also comes back with him to Lichfield.

The show's structure is based on one 30-minute episode per week. The episodes are well-paced, with a good combination of both laugh-out-loud moments and more serious emotional scenes. The show has been praised for its blend of traditional sitcom style with more contemporary elements of humor.

Cuckoo is a funny and well-made sitcom that has been popular with viewers since it first premiered on BBC Three. The show enjoys an impressive cast of talented actors, which ensures that the characters are well-developed and believable. The writing is clever and witty, and the show's humour is rarely predictable. The show is also visually appealing, with some beautiful scenery showcasing Lichfield as a sleepy and quintessentially British town.

It should be noted that the show transitions in season 3, with Cuckoo being replaced by another character played by Andie MacDowell. However, the show's creators manage to maintain the unique tone and style of the show while keeping viewers invested in the plot. The show runs for five seasons and offers a satisfying conclusion for fans. If you're in the mood for a funny and heartwarming comedy with a unique cast of characters, then Cuckoo is well worth a watch.
