Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt Season 4 Episode 6

Ep 6. Episode 6

  • May 30, 2018

Kimmy Schmidt, the show’s quirky and lovable protagonist, is back for another season of wild misadventures in New York. Following the previous season's dramatic cliffhanger, which found Kimmy tackling some personal demons, this season's sixth episode, simply titled “Episode 6,” picks up with Kimmy trying to regain her footing.

In this episode, Kimmy gets caught up in a scheme to sell stolen art, when her new boyfriend, Perry (Daveed Diggs), convinces her to help him sell some pieces he “acquired” from a wealthy client. Unbeknownst to Kimmy, this leads her down a dark path filled with danger, betrayal, and very real consequences.

Along the way, we see some of our favorite supporting characters coping with their own issues as well. Titus (Tituss Burgess) is struggling to find work as an actor, Jacqueline (Jane Krakowski) grapples with her evolving identity, and Lillian (Carol Kane) is trying to keep her community Garden Club afloat.

As the episode progresses, tensions rise as Kimmy and Perry find themselves in increasingly precarious situations, leading to a chaotic and hilarious sequence of events. Meanwhile, Jacqueline’s attempts to get in touch with her Native American heritage take her on a seemingly never-ending self-discovery journey. Titus’s attempts to find work lead him to some strange auditions, including one for an alien-themed musical, and Lillian’s Garden Club gets her entangled in a clandestine affair with a city council member.

One of the strengths of this season has been the way the show tackles some serious issues while still maintaining its trademark humor. The writing brilliantly weaves social commentary into the narrative, without ever feeling heavy-handed or preachy. This is especially evident in Jacqueline’s storyline, where the show explores her complicated relationship with both her Native American heritage and the white culture she was raised in.

As always, the show's cast shines, with Ellie Kemper’s performance as Kimmy being particularly impressive. She brings a great mix of optimism, resilience, and naive enthusiasm to the role, playing off the other actors in the show with great chemistry. Tituss Burgess is also consistently hilarious in his role as Titus, with his character's flamboyant personality providing ample opportunities for comedy.

Overall, this episode serves as a great example of why Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt has become one of the most beloved comedy shows of recent years. It’s packed full of absurd situations, witty dialogue, and some genuinely heartwarming moments. While this season’s plot may be a departure from previous ones, it is still every bit as entertaining, and fans of the show are sure to be thrilled with this latest installment.
